Map Editor Updates

basically its just to show the user-friendliness of this new and improved editor. Not actually sure whether to do an engine or a standalone game (or both) yet.

The complete Tileset and MapEditor is 200KB combined (Tileset Dimensions are 672x2000 px). My goal was to keep filesizes as small as possible seeing as it is browser-based.

Turn off the music if it bothers ya :P



Features:
Load/Save Maps
Multiple Tile Copy/Paste
3 Map Layers (Ground/Mask/Fringe)
GIF alpha transparency + JPEG compression.
Support for Ex-Large Tilesets.
Transparent Paste Preview

I don't think file size should be one of your concerns :P I mean it is browser based but its not like its the game client itself the more tiles there are to work with the better [zorro_msn_zorrillito-30]

You aren't simply painting and saving it as a single bitmap. If the editor uses a tilesheet, the client has to use the exact same tilesheet. Thats the way it works.

Yeah :P but you haven't made the client yet, you don't have to make it download the whole tileset at game start. Make them download as needed thus the first time you log in you'll lag for a second while it downloads all the tiles on that map and never again :). Unless you teleport to a map you've never been to before that is.

Well even so, if you stream, download file size is even MORE important.

Otherwise you will see people appearing with no clothes on and such.

Streaming is what the current AnimePhantom game does, although i can do that because its turn based. Well seeing as that tileset is as big as a standard Mirage Source tileset and its only ~100kb i should be able to fit in 20x that much for the client. 2mg may be large but hopefully i can cache the graphics so the load times will be much faster.

If you say so ^^ I'll be sure to tell you what I don't like later busy starting the character editor now (php one) on and on the map editor you need block tiles [msn_red_fox_smilies-01] very important

Oh yeh u mean move blocking. Yeh im getting to that.
